A note from your teacher
John Neyman Jr
Maybe you've sat in church for years and still feel like you're missing a piece. You know the stories — David and Goliath, the Sermon on the Mount, the resurrection — but when someone asks you to explain what the gospel actually is, or what a word like "justification" means, something goes quiet inside. That's not a failure. It's just a gap that nobody ever took the time to fill in. And filling that gap, in plain language, for exactly that person — that's why I put this seminar together.
I'm Dr. John E. Neyman, Jr., and I serve as Pastor-Teacher at SonRise Community Church. I've spent a long time teaching the Bible to people at every stage of the faith journey — brand-new believers who just prayed for the first time, lifelong churchgoers who realize they've been running on inspiration without a foundation, Sunday school teachers who want to teach with confidence, and curious skeptics who just want to know what Christians actually believe. What I've found, again and again, is that most people are just one good overview away from a completely different relationship with their faith.
Basic Christianity is that overview. Over the course of one day, we're going to do something that sounds ambitious but is actually very doable: we're going to walk through the essential vocabulary of the faith, trace the entire storyline of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, survey every book of the New Testament, lay out the core doctrines Christians hold, and then ask the question that matters most — so what? How does this change the way you live on Monday morning? I've designed every section to build on the last, so by the end of the day, the pieces that may have felt scattered suddenly form a picture that makes sense.
I also want to be honest with you about what this seminar is not. It's not seminary. It's not a theological debate. It's not going to bury you in academic language or leave you more confused than when you started. My job — the job I take seriously every time I stand in front of a room — is to make sure you leave feeling grounded. Confident. Like you finally have the map. And I want you to know that whatever you bring in the door — doubt, curiosity, years of faithful churchgoing, or a brand-new Bible you haven't opened yet — you are welcome here.
Come spend a day with us. The seminar is free, the teaching is straightforward, and there's a good chance you'll leave seeing your faith — and your Bible — with fresh eyes. I hope to see you there.
